OUR STORYBuilt by Passion
Meet the co-owners of Lodge Myoko, Elliot Butler and Elliot Williams — yep, two Elliots! We both grew up on the Tweed Coast of NSW, Australia, where our friendship began over a shared passion for bodyboarding more than 20 years ago. Together, we chased waves across Australia and around the globe, from the turquoise reefs of the South Pacific to the freezing waters of Iceland.
You might be wondering, “How did two ocean-chasing Aussies end up running a ski lodge in Japan?”
The truth is, adventure has always been in our blood. After years of Chasing waves, our love of extreme sports naturally pulled us toward the mountains. Snowboarding and skiing became our next great obsession, and when we first discovered Myoko, it was love at first sight. The deep powder, the friendly culture, the timeless charm of the village— it captured us completely.
We kept coming back, season after season, until eventually, an opportunity arose to put down roots here, And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Lodge Myoko isn’t just a place to stay — it was once an enormous empty shell, that needed a hell of a lot more than just a bit of TLC, it was an outrageously large project that made both of our hairlines recede like you wouldn’t believe. However the two of us don’t do things in halves, we go full throttle or we dont go at all.. Now it’s the home we built out of a lifelong friendship, a shared spirit of adventure, and a deep love for these mountains, and we look forward to sharing that same sense of joy and connection with every guest who walks through our doors.
